Way back in the day, that meant to be careful, you may think you are buying pork but it really could have been cat lol. Of course it applies to a lot of things. I was reading an article about Slash of Guns N Roses fame buying a home and then suing his brokerage. So I have to ask you, has it ever even occurred to you to buy a home without looking at it? Now I have to admit, the article did not exactly say he never saw the home before he bought it, but he’s suing over things like: the house was said to be on a private gated street and it turned out to be a public street?  Hmmm, seems that either the hair never does get away from his eyes or else he never saw it before buying.

I like to think we have common sense in Ohio. The closest I have ever come to someone buying a home without ’seeing it’ was a Cleveland duplex (side by side double) I had listed two years ago. An agent said her client drove by it and was ‘ready to put in an offer’ .  I was able to convinc e them to go in and see it finally, which I was pretty adamant about since they were also waiving inspections! And to be fair, his agent was also encouraging him to take the time to look at the home.

The obvious point to all of this is to do what those of us in real estate call your ‘due diligence.’ This means investigate thoroughly- which in my opinion (and the State of Ohio’s) means get an inspection.  And for goodness sake look at the house or at least the street before you buy.

The comments on the ‘Slash is suing’post are even better than the article. And btw, here is what Slash and his wife said in their lawsuit:

“Slash and his wife have since suffered ‘grief, shame, humiliation, embarrassment, anger, worry, disappointment, nervousness, stomach disorders, backaches, loss of appetite and inability to concentrate on work.”‘
