There is gloom and doom as usual, but why not do the ‘make lemonade out of lemons’ trick. Or how about this one: there is more than one way to skin a cat. What the heck am I talking about? If you are not reading the Urban Ohio Forum, you are missing out on some creative brainstorming opportunities. One of the regular posters started with the premise that auto plants not being used could now be used to build rail cars. No joke, and it’s a great economic opportunity for us no?
Follow along on the thread and see what transpires. Oh, and register and lend your own ideas as well. To whet your whistle (yes, I am full of one liners today!), here is the start of the discussion:
“…With increased ridership and federal funding for Amtrak, commuter rail and rail transit, more rail cars are going to need to be built to expand the fleet. Many existing rail cars will need to be rebuilt to stay in active fleets.
That has led to the question in some quarters in recent days on the need for converting recently closed auto manufacturing plants to building or rebuilding passenger rail cars for the high-speed intercity, conventional intercity, commuter and transit sectors….”
For more, you’re going to have to go to the Urban Ohio discussion thread. I’m hoping to get a lot of the NE Ohio bloggers, readers, and creative minds (one in the same no?) over to the discussion. Do you accept the challenge? I’m throwing down the gauntlet, this is the best idea I’ve heard in ages. What say you? Peace Out- 3C
