What Do Styrofoam and Spinach Have In Common?

August 26th, 2008 · 2 Comments

We like to stay on the cutting edge, (I say ‘we’ meaning you and me lol). Here are two possible future housing trends that just might intrigue you.

Popeye seemed to think spinach was the be all end all, and this use of spinach for an exterior skin of the house and to provide energy definitely caught my eye! It’s from Architecture and Computation Culture’s Future Feeder site. Supporters claim more energy is created than needed for the homeowner so there is enough to share with others. The comments are interesting too since other ideas are put forth.

You know how Styrofoam is one of the things that sticks around in a landfill forever? The Japanese have figured out how to make house kits out of them! I think this is pretty darn cool.Pink Tentacle has some cool Styrofoam dome photos. iDome House tells you why it is the house of the future. I kid you not!  They claim it is free from rot (and maybe mold, like I was discussing in this article), hurricane and gale wind resistant, and the fourth generation building material after iron, wood and concrete.

Peace out- 3C

I like the spinach skin house better than the dome homes. The domes are too much like the ones of the 80′s we have a tough time selling. They are just plain ugly!

It amazes me that the styrofoam is so resilient but I guess it shouldn’t in a way. Maybe if they had murals painting on them and they didn’t look so much like igloos lol.
