Casey is waiting for you!
I have a new dog! I pick him up on Saturday and I’m very excited and wishing I didn’t have to wait. The experience of looking for a dog has made me appreciate the quality of the two shelters I have dealt with in this search.
The first is the Cleveland APL on Willey in Tremont. I have browsed teh kennels there and they are clean, the staff is wonderful, and they have a supplies section on the premises. I wound up not going there for a dog because I was also browsing on the Cuyahoga County Kennel site and found quite a few I wanted to adopt. I’m sure it’s all based on what dog is available during any given week; and neither site lists all the available dogs/cats etc from these shelters.
I spent several hours with each of the dogs. As it turns out, I had three of the group I loved but felt as a single person who works, I needed to go with the oldest dog in the group. Two of the others were adopted today, but my second favorite, Casey, is still available. I have a short fence and worried he might be able to hop it easily. And eventually a 6 year old collie mix won my heart.
So I’m here to encourage you to consider adopting from a shelter. Yes, they may have lived on the streets a bit (the Cuyahoga County Kennel only takes stray street dogs, not surrendered dogs). But my take on it is this: training a shelter dog is no different than training any other dog. It’s a responsibility and part of the adoption process, whether it’s a pure bred dog or one of these loving guys.
My second favorite dog was definitely lovable and gorgeous. You might want to go check her out. Nothing would make me happier than to know she was adopted! Here is the County Kennel site with a list of new adoptions (once in the site, you can see who is still waiting for you!).
Peace Out – and Woof – 3C
