I know he lived a glorious long life, but in a world where heroes are few and far between, Viktor Schreckengost was one of mine. A few years back my ex-mother-in-law and I attended a small but fun event honoring the latest Schreckengost exhibit at our Art Museum. He and my MIL knew each other and he still had this great sparkle in his eyes. He’s called an industrial artist and even if you think you don’t know him, you would recognize his bicycles.
I love his jazz art, what a great sense of color. I tried to do a blog post on him after his Centennial celebration but alas they would not grant me permission to use his art and how can you do a post about art without examples! Our own Cowan Pottery was where he worked when he did these. I’ll have to be satisfied with a link here. The Washington Post obituary is excellent and there is a very cool slide show that is representative of Mr. Schreckengost’s work. There is one at Princeton as well and no they wouldn’t let me do a photo reprint either LOL. So this will have to do as my Schreckengost tribute post. Hats off to a great artist with a wonderful twinkle in his eye. NE Ohio was lucky to have you - Peace Out Mr. Schreckengost.
