The Effects of Foreclosure, A Reach Beyond Houses

Some of the sad results stemming from foreclosures are pretty easy to figure out. When a family loses their home, their children may find themselves living in a totally different community, away from the stability of the home but also away from school and neighborhood friends. Money is a always listed as a tension issue for couples; I can only imagine that tension increases when they find themselves without a home.

My friend and colleague in Frederick Maryland, Bob Carney, posts on his blog about the implication a foreclosure has on the animals in a family and how shelters are swelling past capacity. You can read his most excellent post here.  This is one real estate issue that is not just local, because abandoned pets exist here as well as in Frederick Maryland and all over the Country. If you would like to add a pet to  your brood or family, check out the Animal Foundation of Cleveland, Inc.

We know foreclosures and abandoned properties affect tax monies collected by jurisdictions. It affects the economy in other ways as well. An example was reported in yesterday’s PD by Robert Schoenberger. Sherwin Williams profits have fallen as well as their prediction for near future sales and growth. In his article here, he discusses the company’s plan to cut jobs and the lower stock prices affecting stockholders of Sherwin Williams stock.  The reflection on the economy regarding this issue is more broad based than just foreclosures, but people are not doing as many home improvements if they are worried about being upside down in their mortgage or losing their homes. Sherwin Williams is expecting to cut jobs at both store locations and it’s headquarters. Peace Out - 3C

Bob, I really want them to read your post so I will defer the embedding; but yes, for sure the show is well worth viewing and I hope everyone watches it on Bob’s blog.

I didn’t try to watch Bob’s video. I used to volunteer for the Humane Society, and it was all I could do to not bring every dog home with me.

As I commented on Bob’s blog, the local news stations have been doing more stories on the increase in the shelters, trying to get the pets adopted.

They’ve also said that there’s an increase in people going to the food pantries and asking for pet food as well.

Elaine Reese’s last blog post..You know you might be a bad home inspector when ?

Elaine, hi. The saddest for me is when you can tell by leftover odors that an animal was abandoned IN the house when people leave.
