Now some of you may be familiar with the practice of burying a St. Joseph statue when you are trying to sell your home….you know, for good luck. Did you know you can also smudge it? Yes, real estate in Cleveland can take us everywhere. Of course you don’t have to be moving to do the smudging. What is it? I know about it because of my friend who does it. I asked her what you had to do to become a smudger:
“ I don’t think you “become” a smudger! What you do is get a smudge bundle (available at most woo-woo stores). You light it until it smokes, blow out the flame and carry it around the room/s you’re smudging (obviously, holding an ashtray or dish under it is a good thing). The smudger thinks of what he/she would like to happen. In other words, “I’m smudging to get rid of the negative vibrations in here thanks to Aunt Lula’s visit.” If the homeowner wants to come along and do the thinking, too, that’s good.
I have a friend whose whole house we smudged to get rid of the vibes of her ex. She followed me along, so did her new husband. I think the important thing here isn’t the smudging itself as much as it’s the action that makes your thoughts concrete. Get it?….”
Okay, I get it. It brings closure. I found an on line woo woo store….they suggest using sage to smudge. They also give this description and history of the practice:
“….To smudge is to purify with smoke from certain sacred herbs. The sacred ritual of purifying with smoke comes from the native peoples in both North and South America. In North America the smoke is created by burning sacred herbs such as Sage, Cedar, Sweetgrass and Juniper. In Mexico and Central America, Copal, a resin derived from the copal tree, is used widely in ritual….”
There could be a Cleveland market for this. Do you know anyone who does this? I do of course, but I have not seen anyone request the services as far as selling real estate is concerned. Not so in NYC. This New York Times article talks about a Native American woman who is a NY transplant and she has a smudging practice. It’s fascinating reading! If you have any smudging stories let me know! Peace Out -3C

Humm. Smudging could open up a whole new stream of income for Stagers! I wonder if the stagers are into smudging?

Possibly; or there could already be a whole other cottage industry afoot. I’m going to investigate.

Well, at least I can spell ‘smudging’. I’m never sure how to spell feng shui. Would a Glade Plug-in work?

Elaine you spelled FS well here did you have to look it up? And I agree LOL As to the plug in LOL Maybe a sage plug in? In all seriousness the smoke from the sage has to get in all corners of each room so I think unless you can get a plug in to smoke we are out of luck. :->

What an interesting concept. I have never heard of it, but I am sure some sellers will try ANYTHING at this point!!

The more I think about it Ginger, it appeals to me. The whole spiritual side of it. Call me crazy but I am thinking about having my pal Connie do it for me and talk to some clients about it too.

I’d never heard of a woo-woo store until I read this post. Of course, from now on, every time I see a ‘new age’ store I’ll be calling it a ‘woo-woo’ store and laughing!
So if a stager is also a smudger, what does that make them… a ‘studger’? LOL

On The Today Show, Shirley Maclaine was promoting her new book. The title is something like “Sage-ing and Age-ing. She mentioned this smudging process. I thought “woo-woo”, I read about that on Carole’s blog!

LOL@Leanne og now I m going to have that word in my head every time I meet a stager!
Elaine, did Shirley also mention Dennis Kucinich’s run in with the spirit world? I heard she wrote about it. Cleveland is always in the news lol. I had no idea though that Shirley was into this – very interesting! She would be fun at a dinner party no?
