These days come for all of us but it saddened me so much to hear that Paul Newman passed away. Besides being a NE Ohio native and one of the best actors ever, he added so much more to his life and our world besides acting. Always had a special place in my heart since we shared the same January 26th birthdate. Sigh.
Very well written articles about him here in the PD and here in the Washington Post.
I’m reposting a comment made on the PD post about his life and death. Not only does it show just one more charity/non-profit he either helped found or worked with, but it sounds like a wonderful thing for all of us to get our elderly relatives to do:
We lost a great man and are so fortunate that his legacy will be remembered for generations. The Remembering Site is a non-profit that encourages older people to write their life stories before passing away so that they, too, will be remembered. We would be so appreciative if you would please encourage your older readers to get their stories down. We make it easy to do so at TheRememberingSite
Attached is a sample cover and biography.
Many thanks and regards,
Sarah McCue, PhD
Co-Founder
The Remembering Site
Peace Out Paul. 3C
10.2.08 update: proof we need more Paul Newmans: word that there is going to be one of Newman’s sponsored ‘Hole In the Wall’ Camps on a farm about 45 minutes from Columbus. Talk about good news for cancer patients, youth who won’t have to fly to Connecticut but can experience all the joy of the Hole In The Wall camps right here in Ohio.

A couple years ago, my younger daughter ask me to do this for my granddaughters. (guess she thought I was getting old). Anyway, I wrote mine as a booklet, with photos, to explain what my life was like growing up - big change from today! It took me off & on about a year to do as I kept recalling things to put in it. It was amazing how I began to see how past events as a child really molded me into the person I became - good or bad!
Once it was done, I named the book “It’s All About Lemonade”, because my mantra was ‘when life gives you lemons, make lemonade’. Then I gave it as a Christmas gift along with a high-quality lemon squeezer that should last a long time. They’re supposed to remember me whenever they use it.
I highly recommend doing this project!

How sad. I remember him best in Butch Cassidy and the Sun Dance kid. I loved that movie.

Elaine you blew me away with your comments. What a fabulous way to approach it. And the lemon squeezer adds the final touch!
Moni, it IS sad and I’m thinking what better way than to get some people to participate in The Remember Site. He did a movie, against type, if he even had a type, in which Bruce Willis starred with him as his son. Willis was so thrilled to be doing a movie with Newman, he wouldn’t even allow his own name in the credits. No joke!
