Prospect Row Houses: Still Stately After All These Years

February 21st, 2008 · No Comments

Prospect Row Houses in Upper Prospect Historic DistrictI’ve seen areas in Cleveland that try to reproduce these beauties…like an area we affectionately call postcard row in Tremont (Literary Row is one example).  But these gals have been here since the 1860′s. They are part of the Upper Prospect Avenue Historic District. I snapped the photo one day when I was visiting a colleague who has the Eastern most building for lease. They are situated at about 30th and Prospect. The square footage of the building available for lease is about 6,000 square feet and there is even a somewhat hidden stairway to the basement.  Back in the day, lawyers and doctors lived here and the story goes that Upper Prospect was a rival in stature to Millionnaire’s Row on Euclid.

I remember driving a fellow political volunteer home decades ago.  He lived in one of the buildings on this block.  After he got out of the car I thought how lucky he was to have an apartment in such a building.

It’s a shame there aren’t more of them still standing; sharing the beauty of their stately presence with you.  Peace Out – 3C
