Gina Elise is a special lady. She saw a need to raise money for injured Vets returning from Iraq or in hospitals unable to return home as of yet. She decided she could help.
She created her first pin up calendar for 2007. To promote it and raise money, she visited troops, she rode in Veterans parades and sold calendars. She partnered with non-profits. She did any marketing she could to raise as much money as possible. She is on a mission to keep raising awareness of this project. You can find out all about it on the Pin Ups For Vets website. I first ordered a calendar last Winter. One calendar. Gina treated me as if I bought 100 cases of them, keeping in touch with me about trips to hospitals, delivery of calendars, money raised. This is a shout out to Gina for all that she has done so far. We’ve talked recently on NE Ohio blogs about strong women? Gina Elise is one of those women!
In her own words:
“…I came up with the idea to recreate a nostalgic pin-up calendar that would serve three purposes:
1. The calendars would be sold to raise funds for our hospitalized Veterans.
2. The calendars would be delivered as gifts to our ill and injured Veterans with messages of appreciation from the donors.
3. The calendars would be sent to our deployed troops to help boost morale and to let them know that Americans back home are thinking of them.
Not only will your donated calendars bring smiles to the deployed troops and Veterans, but the calendar proceeds this year will go to a poly-trauma unit at a Veterans hospital that cares for the multiple injuries sustained by our returning troops….”
In the words of a combat medic who wrote to her:
“I am a Combat Medic currently deployed on my second tour in
Iraq . Treating wounded soldiers is my job, and I take it seriously. The guys coming home to hospitals have so many challenges ahead of them, both physically and mentally, as do the ones still serving here. I think what you are doing is righteous! And just what today’s serviceman needs for a morale boost ! How could I get a few of them sent my way:)? Thanks for your commitment to me and my troops.”
Happy New Year 3C
