Pearl Road Auto took the plunge. They are, as this WCPN item reports, taking control of their own energy. They are a long standing, Old Brooklyn business. Pearl Road Auto worked with a local company called Expedite Renewable Energy. According to WCPN’s report (you can also listen to the entire audio version of it by clicking the link above), the fees were $400k which they expect to recoup in about 7 years. They applied for and received grants. I’m working with a fellow board member to find the answer to whether or not costs can be greatly cut if a larger volume of businesses apply for the service together. I know it works for other services (ever had your driveway asphalted with other neighbors and everyone gets a discount?) I’m thinking Pearl Road Auto Parts feels like it was a good business decision, regardless of the price. Just established a committee through my neighborhood board (BPDC) and with a fellow Board Member, will be exploring all the options for our neighborhood.
Old Brooklyn Blogs featured a story written by Ken Prendergast from this past June. It speaks to the point that this is all wild west territory, pioneering and in some ways, making up rules that make the process more efficient as we go along. No pun intended, but good energy vibes from the companies involved in making this happen, from Pearl Road Auto, and even the pols who supported it. Much more to come! peace out – 3C
