Okay it was my company’s site, Howard Hanna. There are a ton of brokerages in the U.S. and we were voted one of the top ten real estate websites by 1000 Watt Consulting and Real Trends. You can read about it here in this Inman News article. You can check out the Hanna site by going to my web page. There is always room for improvement but I think our money was well spent on the web improvements we made over the last two years. We know that most of you are searching for homes on the Internet, and not in the newspaper anymore (sorry print media but it’s true…in fact the stats are working towards 90% of people doing searches on line and not anywhere else).
Maybe you aren’t even looking to buy or sell a house, but you’d just like to find out what’s going on in the market. Besides this blog (!) my website is a good place to browse. You’ll find my listings under ‘my properties’ near my mug shot. But on my page you can also search for any home listed with a NE Ohio brokerage. Maybe you are curious about what is listed for sale in your childhood neighborhood? Maybe you want to know what homes are listed for sale in your current neighborhood. From there you can go to ‘advanced search’ and get really specific. For example, you can ask for info on two story homes with at least 1400 sq feet of living space in any zip code you designate.
I’ve had a few people become my clients recently who were looking on general real estate sites, like Zillow. Now Zillow can be an interesting and fun place to visit, but in reality, there are two things to note when you go to a site like that. First, the availability of the home is not always up to date. I have one current client who found several homes there she wanted to see but i reality they sold months ago. Also, the ‘market values’ section of some of these generic sites is not awful, but not 100%. In some cases they can be off by as much as 30% from true market value.
So my suggestion would be to use my website as a search tool. Even if you don’t wind up working with me (and of course I hope you will!), it’s a very easy way to check out the housing market in NE Ohio. Then ask your agent (or me!) to get involved and find you market values on homes. The National sites just don’t have the local expertise or information we have access to.
If you read my blog on a somewhat regular basis, you know I am not a typical ‘rah rah’ company person. But I am very proud of the fact that my company has taken the time, and spent the money, to make our website very useful and user friendly to the public. Like they say, the more you know, the better off you are? I want you to have as much info as you need. On that note, if you need more, let me know! Peace out - 3C

Thanks, Lilatovcocktail. I’m always calling and asking them to do more but it’s nice to know they’ve made changes that make a difference too lol.
