Karen Farkas of the PD provides an update here on the ODOT application for Federal monies for the 3C Corridor. The Feds say everything involved in the process could delay the start from 2010, 2011 to 2012, but Stu Nicholson (of ODOT) says (if they quoted him correctly):
“We have to allow some flexibility,” said Stu Nicholson, spokesman for the Ohio Rail Development Commission, an independent commission within ODOT. “It is still entirely possible it could begin in late 2011.”
The best part about the article is the details provided from the application regarding things like stops and rail car purchases, etc.
The proposal calls for six stops along the 255-mile route. Two would be in Cleveland – at the lakefront Amtrak station and at RTA’s transit station at West 150th Street and Puritas Avenue. The others would be in Columbus, Dayton, Sharonville — a northern Cincinnati suburb — and Cincinnati.
My only concern is, if the Feds are raising ‘delay in implementation’ issues, and there is heavy competition for this money, will they award the money to a state ready to go sooner? It’s hard to imagine any way to be ready sooner, but just asking. Peace Out -3C
