On Line Homebuyer Education Now Available

August 27th, 2009 · No Comments

Buying a home is something that involves a lot of investigation and information. It’s a big investment, maybe the largest any of us make.  It’s important to do it, but sometimes hard to fit into our busy lives.  First time home buyer classes, seminars, meetings, are held by various groups, and sometimes people don’t attend even when they want to do so, because of time constraints.

Neighborhood Housing Services of Greater Cleveland issued a press release yesterday letting us know that now we can do this on line, through their website.  What a great service:

Who: Nine NeighborWorks organizations across Ohio
What: eHome America, an online homebuyer education service
Why: Homebuyer education is critical to preventing future foreclosure meltdowns.  This online service helps those in remote areas or with scheduling difficulties access homebuyer education at their convenience.
When: Starting today
Where: Websites of NeighborWorks organizations located across Ohio
How: The online service is accessible from home computers, libraries, and other public access points.

Cleveland, OH– Ohio residents can now access quality homebuyer education ONLINE at their convenience of time and location.  Nine NeighborWorks organizations from across the state announced today that they will be offering eHome America, an online course on the homebuying process and homeownership responsibilities.

“Homebuyer education is critical to successful homeownership,” stated Lou Tisler, Executive Director of the Neighborhood Housing Services of Greater Cleveland.  “Our classes help students learn everything they need to know about the home buying process – from how much house they can afford to working with real estate professionals to selecting the right mortgage.  Our students graduate as fully-informed consumers who understand the rights and responsibilities of homeownership.”

Proper homebuyer education has been shown to dramatically reduce foreclosure rates, especially among low- and moderate-income families, according to a recent study by NeighborWorks America.  Individuals and families with counseling from NeighborWorks organizations are ten times less likely to go into foreclosure than similar borrowers.  “If more families had participated in homebuyer education, the current skyrocketing foreclosure rates would be significantly lower,” noted Tisler.  “Now, with eHome America, it is easier than ever for every homebuyer to get the education he or she needs.”

eHome America offers the same course provided live by the NeighborWorks organizations, but online.  NeighborWorks organizations think eHome America will be especially useful for people who can’t come to classes in person due to distance or scheduling difficulties.  eHome America features a series of modules, each with a combination of videos and text geared towards the adult learner.  Every person who takes the course will also be directly connected to a NeighborWorks organization, often in his or her area.  This insures participants receive the one-on-one counseling they need.  Once students complete all the modules and online tests, they will receive an official Certificate of Homebuyer Education Completion to be presented to their lenders.

This comprehensive course takes approximately eight to ten hours to complete and costs $49, but reduced to $35 when combined with coupon code HOME411. As an added bonus, any homeowner completing the online course and purchasing a home within 6 months, will have all fees associated with this online course rebated upon submission of a final HUD 1 settlement statement. As a further bonus, any homeowner purchasing a home after the first 6 months but before a year has concluded from the completion of the course, will have 50% of all fees associated with this online course rebated upon submission of a final HUD 1 settlement statement.
