Older Employees More Affected By Lay Offs In NE Ohio? NE Ohio Law Blog Says Maybe Not

October 22nd, 2008 · No Comments

H/T to Ohio Employer’s Law Blog, which is a great read on a wide variety of topics. This post on a study regarding the age of employees affected by lay offs

I have never wondered about being laid off because of my age but have certainly wondered if it does happen, if age discrimination plays a part in someone getting hired or laid off. Company sponsored buy outs aside, what is the probability that this kind of age discrimination happens here in NE Ohio? According to this law blog, the criteria seems to be more about seniority not age. The specifics deal with a lawsuit brought by two employees of Highland Hospital, both over the age of fifty, who claimed they were laid off over other employees because of their age. There is an interesting chart with stats about layoffs/age for this one particular employer.

If you are a business owner in NE Ohio you might want to add this blog to your google reader; lots of good information. And since it’s a blog and not a book, I love that it can be updated regularly. Peace Out – 3C
