Howard Kurtz in today’s Washington Post gives a synopsis and the latest buzz on MSNBC/FOX and/or O’Reilly vs Olbermann. They both miss the point. Some of us don’t want to hear either one of them anymore! I’m a political junkie, always have been. But talking heads can make me crazy. During the past year I tried to watch Hardball on MSNBC but Chris Mathews seems to talk over every guest on his show. Tiresome and not useful. Keith Olbermann is someone I really tried to like, but he’s just too focused on attacking. No balance to point of view. He can have his opinion, and I might even agree with him. But I don’t need to hear someone spout what I already think, I need counter opinion and also more in depth analysis.
Not a FOX news person and Bill O’Reilly is no different than Chris Mathews, just on the other side of the fence. Okay he is a bit different, he doesn’t always talk over his guests.
This O’Reilly/Olbermann feud article talks about MSNBC and Olbermann (if you can believe the article) wanting to preserve their journalistic integrity. As far as I can tell, they gave up on that a long time ago. They may be asked to tame their feud for business reasons by their bosses, but I ask them to do it because it doesn’t lend any useful information to my life.
Anyone agree with me? Is there room for these two partisan cable channels? There could be if the content were more substantive. As of now, both MSNBC and FOX run the risk of jumping the shark – sadly, O’ Reilly and Olbermann already jumped. I say Rachel Maddow should move to CNN. She knows how to run a show, and she’s a TV rookie! Most veteran talking heads could learn from her. Then MSNBC and FOX can RIP. Enough acronyms. Peace Out – 3C
