This from today’s PD, written by Alison Grant on her business blog. (I have to give her kudos, she winds up writing about more interesting issues than some of the other PD peeps, imho). Ohio’s Supreme Court, The Governor, Attorney General and State Bar Assn are all asking attorneys to volunteer to help one foreclosure family this year — pro bono. Here is a quote:
“….Lenders filed about 83,000 foreclosures last year in Ohio courts. And the cases are expected to pour in at that pace through 2011 or beyond.
The Constitution guarantees the right to an attorney only in a criminal case, not in a civil case like a foreclosure. And if you’re poor and in court to face a foreclosure, chances are you can’t afford a lawyer….”
How to help where it will make the most difference is discussed too…like focusing on communities that are hardest hit so tax revenues are not so tragically lost. What do you think? Peace Out - 3C
