CNN’s John Sutter posted 10 sites to play ‘new music’ in this article today. The article makes it sound like a new trend, but it’s not all that new anymore is it? They mention sites like Blip FM and Napster (you have to have lived in a cave not to know Napster). And yes, Blip can be fun, especially if you are browsing tunes and can share them with friends on Twitter.
My only concern is, you already have to know who you are looking for, I don’t think you can go to Pandora’s website and type in ‘new music’ and have a bunch of recommended hot new artists pop up. Where can you do this? How about Cleveland’s own Alternative Press website. Alt Press peeps spend hours every day listening to new bands and bringing new music suggestions to their readers or website followers, on a daily basis.
For example, you can go to the Alt Press homepage and go to the ‘bands’ tab on top, and find reviews, and recommendations, among other things. Currently, there is a band from Cleveland called The Promise Hero, and other bands from places like Florida and New York. You can read reviews, why they are being recommended – and then a link to tdrrecords so you can find the bands music and hear cuts from the bands. This makes more sense to me. So much great new music gets overlooked if you don’t follow a site like Alternative Press Magazine’s website. Just sayin. Peace Out – 3C
