NE Ohio Economic Tidbits

August 30th, 2010 · 2 Comments

You may have heard that there was a study (isn’t there always!) which ranked economic (job) changes from June to July this year.  According to that study, we were a ’6′ improvement, which as it turns out, was not too bad.  There is a Buckeye Institute site that gets to the nitty gritty of our job creations or losses (in Ohio and by County) over the past decade or so.

Highlights:  over 10k jobs created this year between June and July.

Of the private sector jobs added, 5,200 were in professional & business services, 3,200 were in construction and 2,600 were in education & health services. The Ohio Assn. of Realtors points out that the two industries seeing consistent job growth in Ohio are education and health services.

Back to the Buckeye Institute report. The Buckeye website is very cool and allows you to check out all sorts of data from wages to taxes to population figures.  And you can even do some county to county comparisons. Check it out here   Peace Out – 3C

Health care is definitely the field to get into if you want a job in Cleveland. The Clinic is huge, and only growing.

I’m actually kinda surprised about the education and construction numbers though. Maybe a lot of boomers are retiring from education? And maybe the construction jobs are a temporary boost as a result of the housing tax credit that expired in April.
