We showed condos to a newer client this week. Someone who is moving here from Florida, someone who surfaced after the Federal Tax Credit expired. And no, this client is not from Ohio. I will say that while looking at a few condos 30 seconds from Gund Arena on Friday, this client commented that maybe living that close to The Gund is not as attractive anymore. Yes, this soon to be Clevelander was disappointed LBJ left, but he is moving forward with his plans. That’s my perspective on our overall health and welfare. We just keep going.
Ever read The Atlantic, either in print or on-line? Reporter Chris Good writes a thoughtful post on how important LeBron’s departure might be to our economy and well being, throwing in stats you might find interesting (I know I did) . He quotes from an interview with Joe Roman, the CEO of Greater Cleveland Partnership (GCP). I’ll give you one quote, then ask you to Chris Good’s post and tell me (and him) what you think:
“The Northeastern Ohio economy is $180 billion in scale. It is the 12th or 13th largest regional marketplace in the United States, and no matter whose number you use in terms of a projection of the economic value of either the Cavaliers or LeBron James pales by comparison to that number….”
Hat/tip to Chris Good for an overview of opinions contrary to CEO Roman. One other thought from me: regardless of the economic impact, NE Ohio needs positive impact that has some legs to it, mostly in the form of jobs and education. LeBron could have stayed here and had an injury that ended his career. Expecting one person to fuel the economy never relaly makes any sense. That goes for Mr. Unprofessional Gilbert of the Cavs too. (Even Peter Angelos, owner of my Baltimore Orioles, doesn’t sound as pompous and unprofessional as he does. He must have been listening to one of County Commissioners and modeling him…Just my opinion!@) Peace Out – 3C
