Can Kosar Influence How Browns Fans Vote? Kosar Announces for Cimperman
Received the following press release today and thought I’d pass it on as an FYI. The ‘release’ focuses on the fact that Bernie Kosar used to be a football player but is now a businessman interested in the future of Cleveland. Well, I don’t have to tell that to all of you, goodness knows all you Browns fans can probably give me a run down on exactly what Bernie K has been doing since he retired. Also a rehash of the Browns departure with Art Modell, Dennis Kucinich and a new stadium vs renovated one.
Anyway, here is the release in it’s entirety:

BERNIE KOSAR SUPPORTS JOE CIMPERMAN
Bernie Kosar announced on the Mike Trivisonno program his support for Congressional candidate Joe Cimperman.
Cimperman said he was happy to add the
Cleveland legend to his growing list of supporters, which also include the recent addition of Cleveland Firefighters Local 93.
“Yes, Bernie was a football player, but now he is a local businessman. He wants northeast
Ohio to grow and prosper. I’ll take the support of our hometown, local heroes, residents and business people like Bernie over
Hollywood stars any day,” Cimperman said.
Cimperman was referring to his well-funded opponent Dennis Kucinich, whose war chest is funded primarily by out-of-state interests. Only five percent of Kucinich’s itemized contributions came from
Cuyahoga
County. And while accepting big bucks from business big shots not based here, he has hypocritically attacked Cimperman for being support by local business people.
By the way, Kucinich at one point was on the payroll of one of the City’s best known corporate barons – Art Modell.
The Plain Dealer reported (8/25/96) that Kucinich was on the payroll of Art Modell for a time until July 1994. Throughout that year and until Art Modell declared a moratorium in June of 1995, the Browns worked with the City and business leaders who collectively spent $400,000 to develop a renovation plan for Cleveland Municipal Stadium. Modell repeatedly said he preferred a renovated municipal stadium for the Browns. Kucinich is quoted in The Plain Dealer saying “I was trying to help them stay at the stadium, by giving advice on strategy and so on…” Kucinich said of his role.
Ultimately, despite Modell’s oft-stated desire to stay at the Stadium that Kucinich was apparently assisting with, and after civic leaders spent all that time and money trying to accommodate that goal, Modell’s excuse for leaving was that he didn’t want a renovated Stadium.

Is there any public polling information available on this race? Obviously, Kucinich realizes he is in more trouble than he has been in a long time or we wouldn’t be seeing his disturbing face plastered over all the busses downtown.

Hi Roman, I think you are correct, the last time I think most of the advertising Kucinich had to do was in the form of yard signs. This time it’s different. All the polls I’ve seen have Kucinich in the lead, for whatever that is worth.
You can go to Planet NEO for one poll discussion: http://planetneo.neohawk.info/user/38/tag/poll/
And you can read Jill on Writes Like She Talks (she has done posts on poll results) http://www.writeslikeshetalks.com
I’ll add a link or two when I find more

And of course the only thing that really counts is how we all vote on election day!
