Jobs May Leave at a Faster Rate Than Green Jobs Created, But That is Not a Reason To Not Go Green Collar

October 6th, 2009 · No Comments

Dana Hedgpeth writes an in depth study of the job situation in Michigan. Her point seems to be that more jobs have left Michigan, vastly more, than ‘green collar’ jobs created over the past four years.  Is that the real point? I say no.

Of course more jobs were lost due to the old style manufacturing  jobs that made up so much of Michigan’s workforce.  The new culture of green collar however, is not going away.  I think the Governor of Michigan should be applauded for aggressively pursuing green collar, and creating over 150k new green jobs. Ohio is on this path, I think and hope, and we need to stay focused on the real point: Green industry and green buildings (all green collar) are the new style of manufacturing. Eventually it will all even out.  You can read Dana’s article on Michigan’s loss and creation of jobs here. (From today’s Washington Post)   Do you agree with me?  Peace Out – 3C
