Jobs Coming to Canton and Cleveland…Lots of Them!

November 13th, 2008 · 2 Comments

Two interesting developments were on the news tonight so I ferreted out the information on the Web. Yep, you can always find it here. First in Canton. This is from the North Canton News blog. A h/t to the blog’s author, Anthony McCune. The old Hoover company headquarters and plant will be redeveloped. Maple Street Commerce is doing the developing. Now Anthony’s post is from February but tonight on¬†our local news (Newsnet5), there are already other companies joining in with Maple Street Commerce and the number of jobs already committed is near 800. ¬†According to the developer:

According to the timetable laid out by Semarjian, North Canton can expect to see 200-300 manufacturing jobs created in two to three years; 100-400 office, technology and research jobs in three to five years and 50-150 service and retail jobs in three to five years.

The second bit of news is related to the 2010 Census. It’s that time again. These jobs are temporary but should last through 2010. They are hiring now. I don’t know if they are hiring all 5000 (yes 5000!) but they are hiring everything from census takers to trainers. Full time or part time. You can read the initial article about it here in the PeeDee. The wages range from about $8 to $19/hour, depending on the position. Here is the page from the Census Bureau site if you want to investigate or apply for a job.

Peace Out – 3C

That’s great. That little town was depressing. I was born there and have family on 26th NW.

Wow Bob I had no idea you were born in Canton. This is really a success story, considering how bleak things looked after Hoover closed up shop.
