I played softball for a couple of years in school; my Dad was one of the coaches; it was one of the few things we were able to do together (besides going to the hardware store) so it’s a very nice memory.I aspired to be a songwriter (LOL). In the 70s I had composition books full of songs. In the 90s I had one book of poems. Kris Kristofferson was the original inspiration, writing words like ‘he’s a walking contradiction, partly truth and partly fiction.’ and I kept trying to be that good. Yes, I am better off in real estate!
I wound up (1996) doing historical research for a friend who was writing a book about big game hunters. A stretch? lol. Well one of the game hunters also spent 40 years as an executive (sometime as President) of a Cleveland industrial company. His name was Lee Chadwick and he also invented a race car! I would fly here for a few days at a time, spending time in the main branch of the Cleve Public Library. And checking out the City in between visits to my Mom and friends. I realized Cleveland was much more inviting a place to live than it was when I left in the 70s. That is how I wound up back on the shores of Lake Erie.
When I have been fortunate enough to meet a few famous people (usually musicians), I don’t say a word. Why? Well there was my Leonard Nimoy experience. It was a concert/benefit for a Presidential candidate in the 70s; in Los Angeles. I was working backstage. Barbra Streisand came and went and so did Elton in all of his caped glory. Then I found myself in line at the coffee pot behind Leonard Nimoy. So what did I say to him? ‘Your ears are not pointy!’ OMG. Years later I was backstage at FarmAid sitting behind Bob Dylan and Kris Kristofferson among others. I decided to be a fly on the wall and shut up. I mean really, what was I going to say, I love your songwriting??? LOL
During the 80s in Maryland it was a heady time for real estate. Potential buyers on lawns shouting out counter offers, several at a time, to sellers. I had my sights set on a community in Rockville and one particular house. Every few months I would knock on the door…’do you want to sell yet?’ After a while the owner would open the door and smile at me and say no not yet! I guess I should have known I’d wind up in real estate! Now I do that (in varying degrees) for clients. Currently there is a seller who just may have the right home for a client but he seems rather elusive. One day my phone fell below the seat as I drove so I couldn’t get the call…it was him!~ On a restricted line, saying he might be ready to sell. Now my letters and phone calls have gone unheeded again! Nope I’m not giving up!
When I was in grade school I had the honor to be asked to be the ‘bell girl.’ This meant I was in charge of ringing the bells before school started (ten min warning, five min warning, etc) and recess and lunch, well, you get the drill). Somehow I decided one day that lunch should start early………………. that was the end of my bell assignment
And I used to love doing somersaults on the bars and bannister’s going up the stairs at Harvard School. Grade school is a carefree time, isn’t it!
When I was growing up we had birds. Canaries and parakeets. They were fun but not a dog. I finally had one, a Siberian Husky named Naklik (Siberian city) Koyakuk (because she was a coy dog! She was a great companion for 14 years and that is her photo on this post. My thanks (!!!) to Monika McGillicuddy for the meme tag.
Part of doing a meme is tagging a few others to share stories about themselves. I have no idea if these two will take me up on this but I’m going to try anyway. I’m tagging Joel Libva, The Franchise King, Karen Stone, a Clevelander in Texas, and Christine Bourne of RBCA. Peace Out – 3C

Carole,
Softball Player, Songwrite, Researcher, Poet? Wow! However – love the line: Your ears are not pointy!
What else would one want to say to Leonard Nimoy! ?
As for changing the schedule as a bell girl – guess you just wanted to march to your own tune!
Sabine

So you went from song writer poet to blog writer and muse. I think it’s a good transition.

Bonnie if only I could write half as well as you do, you are the real muse.
