We are all, except for the professionals, getting up to speed on green energy terminology. For me, getting up to speed on the technology itself is a learning curve. Something I haven’t explained this past week. When I talked about getting small businesses up and running with solar energy, it’s because I understand solar better. But maybe other forms would be more appropriate. That’s what we all have to figure out.
This Renewable.com blog post talks about the first hydro kinetic power plant to begin operation. The post explains the difference between wind turbines and hydro kinetic power. For example, hydro k does not require dams be built.
Hydro Green Energy has a plan (they are the ones who got this plant operational).
Hydro Green Energy has an ambitious plan to harness about 1600 MW of hydro kinetic energy from the Mississippi and Ohio rivers. Even though the first turbine was installed last year, the new hydro kinetic power plant had to wait to become fully operational until the results from a study about the impact on fish arrived.
If you read the entire post it explains quite well (at least to a lay person like me) what hydro kinetic is all about. So far, it seems we have a choice between hydro kinetic, wind turbine and solar. Well, not so fast. I road in a shuttle van with a guy who talked about his implementation of LED technology which is cheaper than solar or wind turbine. Stay tuned, as Bette Davis said, it’s going to be a bumpy road getting up to speed. But anything that helps us 1) become less dependent on usual fossil fuels and 2) brings in jobs is worth conquering a learning curve. Peace Out – 3C
