High Speed Rail Stimulus Package Monies Threatened – Action Alert

February 4th, 2009 · 1 Comment

This morning we have learned that Senator Kit Bond (R-MO) plans to introduce an amendment on the Senate floor today that would strip the $2 billion for High Speed Rail projects from the American Economic Recovery and Reinvestment Act, over concerns that these are not short term, but long term investments. Senator Bond is wrong — there are $5 billion worth of passenger rail projects ready to go according to the States for Passenger Rail Coalition.

I urge you to immediately CALL the staff Senators Voinovich and Brown and urge them to vote NO on the Bond amendment to strip High Speed Rail funds from the stimulus bill.  Please let me know if you have any questions or if you receive any feedback.

Senator Sherrod Brown
(202) 224-2315

Senator George Voinovich
(202) 224-3353

If either line is busy, please call back!

Peace Out 3C (shout out to All Aboard Ohio for the alert)

I had to stay on hold for just a few minutes on each Senator’s lines but was able to express my opinion to both. Staff person did not sound familiar with the Bond amendment but said she would pass my message along.

Senator Voinovich is still not supporting the Stimulus package and that was reiterated to me in my call to his office. I expressed my opinion, that monies for High Speed rail should not be stripped from the Package, that any line item that creates jobs and could boost the economy instead of just giving money to banks was worth him fighting for — if he does’t support it that’s not enough. Something is going to pass and he needs to fight to make sure what IS included creates jobs and economic development for Ohio.
