It’s Sunday so your thoughts may either go to football or real estate (if you have hot dogs in the house I know which thoughts win!). Most of these links are Cleveland first time home buyer programs but I’m including a few more.
If you go to the City of Cleve website, there is a page I’m highlighting here with links under housing. The website also mentioned that they are now offering programs for first time sellers as well as buyers so don’t forget to check that out with The City.
We are always talking with Lou Tisler from Neighborhood Housing Services about foreclosures but in reality, they also provide FTHB assistance. The Cleveland Housing Network’s Homeward Homes Program is another source. They purchase and rehab homes throughout the neighborhoods. Here is a link to their homeowners classes/seminars.
This is a link to the Living In Cleveland page listing various lenders in the area that can help you (banks and S and L’s).
Did you know that the State of Ohio has a program for FTHBs? It’s OHFA or The Ohio Housing Finance Agency. You write a grant and it’s all explained here. They have several levels of mortgage assistance. This is one program that falls below most people’s radar so check it out.
I have to include Lakewood’s FTHB Program because it is awesome. It applies to single family, condo or even multi-family purchases (although you can’t be buying an investment home it has to be your place of residence as well).
It’s always good to weigh your options, know what you qualify for in terms of how much house you can buy and what you are comfortable spending. Many of these programs listed above have seminars you can (or have to) attend. It’s a good way to glean knowledge. And truly, before you start calling someone about wanting to see a few homes, or going to open houses, it’s much better to have taken some time to do all of the above research - I know, it’s more fun to do it in reverse but trust me about this, it can be painful to do it that way! What is that phrase? Forewarned is forearmed? (Hmmm, when I come back from showing homes in Bay Village and spending time in Little Italy with a friend I’m going to have to research the etymology of that phrase lol) Peace Out - 3C
