First Stagers, Now Caretakers to Help You Sell Your Home?

April 23rd, 2009 · 4 Comments

Another reason to really love my real estate career (learning something new every day is at the top of the list). Home stagers are professional people who will come in and help stage your home. Usually with your own furniture, sometimes their own. They don’t however, live in your home.

I was watching WKYC news today and heard a story about caretakers for homes. No, not health care workers.  People have vacant homes, and traditionally, homes with furniture in them with that ‘homey’ look,, tend to sell better.

Apparently there are companies that can connect you to a caretaker. This person moves in with their own furniture. Then when a potential buyer makes an appointment, they make sure to have the smell of fresh coffee or a burning fireplace, or something else that makes the home appealing. All things that can’t happen I suppose, if you live somewhere else and your home is vacant.

I had to check on line. Here is a link to Caretakers of America. They are based in Wichita Kansas.  There is a separate website for other states under the same umbrella group. Colorado seems to have an active caretaker group. Caretakers are (according to this group) responsible for minor home repairs that come up and pay a very small percentage of the normal montly rent for that property. So technically, it sounds like you can have a vagabond lifestyle, moving from house to house. Without the expense of your own home – and with the ability to lease for much less than the normal rates.

Had you heard of this? If you know someone who has used this service please add some info to the comments here.  It’s fascinating to me.   Peace Out – 3C
