Does This Get Us One Step Closer to The Ohio Hub?

June 12th, 2008 · No Comments

freight-train-crusing-on-father-caruso-blvd.jpgI hope so. I love the bipartisan support, the overwhelming majority that makes it virtually veto-proof (based on the fact that the Senate has already passed such legislation (SB294). CNN covers this well on their website: House Approves Amtrak Funding. The vote was 311-104…not too shabby!

You know,  we normally only see names of our legislators when someone wants us to lobby for something? Well this you can contact them to thank them for supporting this Bill.  Andrew Bremer, Executive Director of All Aboard Ohio provided this link to the roll call vote……you can find your representative there and thank them! Oh yeah, you can also ask them to keep supporting The Ohio Hub and light rail.

Ending with a quote from the above-linked CNN article:

“….Amtrak’s boosters say the high cost of driving has made people eager for more and better rail service.

A record 25.8 million passengers took Amtrak in the last fiscal year. The railroad expects ridership to approach 28 million this year, Black said.

May was the biggest month in Amtrak’s 37-year history, with total ridership up 12 percent over last year and ticket revenue up 16 percent over last year. Black said Amtrak’s marketing research indicates that about half the increase can be attributed to gas prices….”

Peace Out – 3C

Update: Here is a more local article from the Toledo Blade

June 22nd Update: The Columbus Dispatch says why yes, this Amtrak funding gives them the ability to do long term planning and get us on track (no pun intended) for the Ohio Hub.
