Participating with the gang from Meet the Bloggers was a fantastic experience, as well as getting to know Derek and Bill and Joel and Brian, Tim and Gloria and George a little bit better. As one of the new kids on the MTB block I truly appreciated the invitation to participate. And WKYC was a wonderful host. And btw, here is the gracious Gloria Ferris live post record from last night. She was incredible. And this is Brian’s You Tube video on vote counting at the BOE. Now that the dust has somewhat settled, my brain is thinking…..Meet The Bloggers and WKYC may know how to throw a party but not sure the BOE has it down yet.
If I had a position on an election board and I had to plan for voting day, wouldn’t I take into consideration the total number of registered voters and then make sure there was a ballot for each of them if they accepted my invitation to vote? This post in the Daily Bellwether got me thinking.
All the hub bub surrounding who voted for whom and why brings me to the point that in the end, Ohio’s primary system allows anyone to vote for anyone in any party; maybe you have to do an affidavit to switch from your normal party affiliation, but you can do it. So why didn’t each precinct have enough ballots for every registered voter?
Does this mean spending more money? Well yes. Why? Because the system allows it. In fact the system mandates it. It does NOT mean printing enough ballots for Democrat registrants and expecting that to be sufficient. Or vice versa.
Can you say disenfranchisement? This egalitarian method of conducting primaries seems to want to inspire people to vote their consciences regardless of party affiliation. If that is true, then make sure you can accommodate! This seems almost more important to me than the issues surrounding possible nefarious reasons for people switching alliances during this primary season. Maybe it’s just me; what do you think?? Peace Out – 3C
3/6/08: The BOE is directing anger at the Obama campaign when the solution is right here in this blog…next time print more ballots! Here is Joe Guillen’s article on this issue.

Regarding your “nefarious reasons for people switching alliances” are you referring to rumors that Republicans switched in order to vote for Obama, thinking he would be easier to beat come fall?
I wrote a post on that as I heard people discussing it yesterday morning. Couldn’t believe they would actually do such a thing!
I won’t say who I voted for yesterday, but I was “real tickled” last night.
