Commercial Real Estate To Go Greener And More Regulated?

March 14th, 2008 · No Comments

Well written article by Andrew Burr of the CoStar Group out of Bethesda, Maryland. It talks about what some are calling a fait accompli regarding more regulation of commercial development - the greening of new development. The article discusses issues like buildings using more energy than transportation, the Presidential Candidates actually dealing with issues of green development (not standard in past elections), and issues like cap and trade and making money from sustainability.  Good quote from the article:

“There is an overwhelming belief from the scores of people I speak with … that governmental regulations pertaining to the ‘greening’ of commercial real estate will accelerate greatly over the next 24 months.” And, he says, “If the ‘greening’ of our entire economy proves to support robust economic growth, expect stricter regulations, particularly with regards to energy and water efficiencies.”

All food for thought and I feel a post coming on in the near future lol. In the meantime, enjoy the Burr Article. Peace Out - 3C
