Cleveland Demolition Projects Gone Awry: Can We Get Coordinated Guys?

October 5th, 2007 · 9 Comments

Okay, so if you believe this Associated Press story, Wells Fargo Bank owned a house they had put almost $20k into and the City of Cleveland demolished it anyway. The City chastised them for not filing the appropriate papers with the City; Wells Fargo’s rep said they accept some responsibility but said visually looking at the home, why would it have been torn down anyway? It was obvious repairs had been made.

Flash forward to another house torn down in May because of this aggressive program against blight (the City’s words not mine). The AP story says in that case, a Councilman  asked that demo plans be stopped because someone wanted to buy it and repairs had been made. Mr Rybka, according to the article, said he didn’t know about the Council request.  Who screwed up there?

Come on people! We have limited funds, I think a bit of coordination/cooperation is in order here.

The only evidence I saw of crews actually stopping a demolition had to do with them finding boxes upon boxes of porn magazines in another house. My cynical mind says this may be something you need to do if you are repairing a home and you don’t want it demolished. Put some porn in the home and  crews will want to save the magazines?  Peace Out - 3C

OMG Carole! that is the funniest thing I’ve heard in a while. Nothing like PORN for a good deterrent against evil forces! : )

LOL Hi Ines! It is both funny and aggravating! LOL Maybe increase sales for Playboy? Or doesn’t that qualify as porn anymore? lol

    That is hilarious!!

I am sure it slowed down those workmen for a longggggg time!

Guess you call that on the job entertainment.

Debbie I am sure they were only reading the in-depth stories! Kristal until now I didn’t even think about how long they may have been on break! All this would be funny if it weren’t so frustrating lol

Whatever works. Maybe you should put Playboy and Penthouse in all the vacant properties to stop the wrecking ball.

Mitchell that sounds like a good plan to me if it works; will be hard to keep the magazines from selling out.

The only problem is the crews are on the government time clock, which means residents are paying for them to read smut. How funny!

Kristal, it would be funny if it weren’t so frustrating - maybe they only read when it’s time for their lunch break.

Jennifer thanks for stopping by; the only other problem is that they spend money demolishing homes that have already been improved. Tax payers money being thrown away two different ways!
