International Film Festival Turns 32 in March and The Movie Guides are Out and Online

February 25th, 2008 · No Comments

film.jpgI had a meeting on Market Street Friday afternoon, and after it was over I found myself walking and chatting with someone else about the meeting. As we got to the Film Society building she stopped to get a guide for the Film Festival. For several reasons, I was distracted and didn’t do it (meetings can do that to me lol).  Later, my pal Stacie and I were at Phnom Penh in Ohio City …as we left (after a great meal I might add) we saw stacks of program guides for the 32nd Annual International Film Festival which starts on March 6th and goes through the 16th. And yes, this time I gleefully grabbed a guide.  As usual, lots of good movies. I find myself wanting to give a note from my mother to someone so I can take the entire ten days off and just play.

There is also a website you can browse to find movies and shorts that will be shown with a NE Ohio connection. (This I found courtesy of Crain’s Cleveland where blogger Scott Sutell says what I feel….the font is small and the background jet black? But as usual, I digress….)  The movies on this site either feature Cleveland, were shot here in NE Ohio, were produced or directed by someone from here….you get the drift. Kind of cool that this list is a long one as well.

Two movies stand out for me: One Bad Cat: The Reverend Albert Wagner Story. The Rev has a church called The People Love People Church of God.  Now who can resist a movie with a lead in like that??? The second one is called Return of the Cuyahoga. It deals with the Cleveland that Carl Stokes inherited after our low point in 1969.

Check around for your printed guide.  Alternatively, you can go on line to the Cleveland Film Society site and browse the selections  there. At least you are supposed to be able to do that! At the moment the site exists but it’s not listing films. This may be one time when the printed page is the best method….after all we only have until the sixth of March to decide what we are going to see!   Peace Out - 3C
