Remarkably Ingenious and Creative People/Ideas Covered In These Sites About Cleveland

September 27th, 2010 · 2 Comments

Many of us get tired of the mentality in NE Ohio that Tony Robbins would call ‘stuck.’  He’d say, scratch the record every time you wind up showing your NE Ohio persecution complex, or resigned to fail mentality. (You know he would!).  These sites keep abreast of what is good and actually happening in our [...]

Is Cleveland’s Proposed Opportunity Corridor a Good Example of Smart Shrinking?

September 18th, 2010 · 1 Comment

You knew I would be hung up on this phrase, smart shrinking, since writing this post about it.  Again, it’s something that is being practiced anyway, just gives it a good name!  The PD’s Tom Breckenridge writes about continuing plans for the layout of the Opportunity Corridor   The population of the surrounding neighborhoods is shrinking, [...]

New Affordable Housing: If It’s Also Green, It Keeps Being Affordable

August 25th, 2010 · 2 Comments

Thanks to PR Newswire (in Cleveland!) for their recent press release regarding grant monies and a plan to make Ohio new construction affordable housing green.   We are also talking apartments, and that to me is even more terrific because more people are renting!  Here is a quote from the article: “Since we started Ohio Green [...]

Home Energy Efficiency Thoughts

July 26th, 2010 · 4 Comments

I get Realtor® Magazine because, well I’m one of them lol.  Over the last few years, energy issues have become more prominent ‘need’ items on home buyer lists.  For example, 2009 surveys found that buyers listed energy efficient appliances as very important.  I find that home sellers are not as attuned to green or energy [...]

ODOT Commissioning Study for Phase Two of the 3C Corridor

July 18th, 2010 · No Comments

We are supposed to be about two years away from Phase One being in operation (if the politicians don’t stop fighting, that could be longer of course).  Phase Two would connect Detroit/Toledo/Cleveland. There is already service (not high speed but service) from Toledo to Chicago so this phase would help bring the Ohio Hub to [...]

For those who may have wondered if Ohio could be pro actively involved in energy companies if they started  up or relocated here, this is a good story. First Solar  is behind the Crayola Crayon company’s solar farm just being created. This is all happening in Forks Township Pennsylvania.  (I had to look it up: [...]

Case Study: Columbia MO Gets Creative on Energy

October 20th, 2009 · No Comments

KBIA News reports, both in audio and transcript form, a story about Columbia Missouri.  The residents set a goal to meet for renewable energy and they met the goal set in 2004 a little over two years early.  This project is intriguing. It uses methane gas produced naturally from (I assume) land fills/waste decomposition and [...]

Helping Bellaire Puritas Become Green Collar

October 16th, 2009 · No Comments

It’s been a few weeks of meetings with people who are and have been involved in green collar and sustainability development and products.  It’s been fascinating and exciting at the same time. Did you know that the City of Cleveland Sewer District plans to begin changing how they charge commercial structures (maybe residential too, I [...]

Article From Shades of Green on The Housing Market

October 10th, 2009 · No Comments

Through Market Watch, I found an interesting web article written by someone with a moniker named Shades of Green. He’s talking about the now a few years old question, what will make the market recover? The title of his article is called Escaping House Arrest  (great title). One point he makes is that we are [...]

Green Collar Will Not Go Away

October 9th, 2009 · No Comments

An article in today’s Plain Dealer  (written by Bob Schoenberger) hits upon several points.  Yes, factory workers who lost their jobs may have a hard time finding a new job without additonal training, if they want a ‘green’ job with a company that makes green products.  An economist is quoted saying it’s not that all [...]
