I’ve not been sure this is a good idea, and The New York Times’ Matthew Wald seems to provide me with more reason to think it’s wrong. It’s all about the debate over coal fired energy. Can coal be clean? How do we replace it when so much of our energy is provided by coal now? Is there a way to reduce emissions? These are only some of the issues.
Wald writes about the Mountaineer Power Plant in West Virginia (isn’t there a casino Ohioans go to in that town?). They are getting ready to try a new idea: burying carbon emissions in the ground. First, no one seems to be sure if it will work or if it will pollute the water systems.
Second point: this procedure could be more expensive than solar or wind.
Third: For a system that may or may not do what is intended, at quite the expense, it will not wind up reducing even 50% of the emissions.
Is this really what they mean when they say clean coal? Peace Out – 3C
