Artemus Ward Construction Moving Along in Bellaire Puritas

March 8th, 2008 · No Comments

artemus-ward-rebuilding-edited-two.gifI snapped a photo of the construction progress at Artemus Ward elementary school last week. It’s look pretty nifty from an architectural standpoint, with huge beams on the roof at the back end which I am thinking might be skylight supports. Either way, things are progressing, even though it’s Winter. The last school enrollment count (last year) was about 500 students – they are expected back in the new building for the 2008-2009 school year.

Artemus Ward was the pen name for a humorist who wrote during the time of the Civil War. He started out at the PD, went on to work for Vanity Fair and then to England.  Seems he crammed a lot into his life (he died at the age of 33 in England).  Here are Mark Twain’s word’s about him. Here is a link to an essay Ward wrote in 1866; we could use some humor as we dig out from a snow storm, no? Peace out – 3C
