So You Want To Buy a House for $100k or Less? Part One (East Side)

March 17th, 2008 · No Comments

This is a variation of the study/posts I did a month ago, but I’m sticking with the $100,000 range. Have you asked yourself, can I buy a home for $100,000 or less in NE Ohio?  The answer is well…yes. I’m using condo and single family listings on our computer listing service which means (drum roll) [...]

FYI: MD Teachers Unions Become Slots Proponents

March 16th, 2008 · No Comments

Ohio seems to be perpetually debating the issue of slots or no slots so this might be interesting to you, I know it was to me, and a bit surprising. The Washington Post reports today that The Maryland State Teachers Assn. has voted to support and campaign for slot machines in Maryland. The issue has [...]

Senator Howard Metzenbaum: Best Obit in the Washington Post

March 15th, 2008 · No Comments

It doesn’t surprise me that the best obituary for recently deceased Senator Howard Metzenbaum would appear in the Washington Post. “The Washington Post calculated that in 1982 alone, Sen. Metzenbaum blocked the passage of bills that would have cost the Treasury or consumers about $10 billion.”  Or this quote: “Sen. Metzenbaum had some notable losses, [...]

Ohio House HB206: Scrap Metal Laws

March 14th, 2008 · No Comments

The Ohio House is debating a bill that would require scrap metal yards to copy ID’s and require proof that you own something before you scrap it with them. I’m a tad cynical but god knows metal theft has been affecting my clients and the sale of their homes for a few years. It’s definitely [...]

March 14th, 2008 · No Comments

Well written article by Andrew Burr of the CoStar Group out of Bethesda, Maryland. It talks about what some are calling a fait accompli regarding more regulation of commercial development – the greening of new development. The article discusses issues like buildings using more energy than transportation, the Presidential Candidates actually dealing with issues of [...]

croquet equipment

Cool article in the Washington Post today on a rental complex called Camden College Park. They are offering some amenities that are not the norm: WiFi, W ii, ipod docks in fitness center, a croquet and bocce ball set up (although they spelled it boccie which I think is wrong, anyone know? lol). Would you [...]

First Leg of Ohio Hub Could Be Up And Running In Four Years

March 12th, 2008 · No Comments

I make trips to Pittsburgh for company reasons (conventions included) and personal reasons (I’m going for the day with my cousin Richard to visit relatives at the end of this month). Each time I go, I have to drive (or someone does). It’s about a three hour trip. Imagine if I could take the train…it [...]

2008 Rock n Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony…Your Thoughts?

March 11th, 2008 · No Comments

Was this the first time the ceremony was broadcast live on cable? Maybe I just never saw it in prime time before.  No commercials, a definite plus. Did you watch? Yeah I know, there are a lot of people who could be inducted who are not but I didn’t have an issue with anyone being inducted this [...]

I Never Dreamt I’d One Day Belong to A Lake County Board

March 10th, 2008 · 3 Comments

In order to be a Realtor®  in the State of Ohio there are licensing laws I have to follow. I had to take 40 hours of classes (I did, at Hondros College). I had to get a brokerage to sponsor me. I signed on with Smythe Cramer Co (now Howard Hanna) and  proceeded to take [...]
